Motivation

Understanding how the Sun changes helps us deal better with what happens on Earth through seasonal planning for food and shelter as well as recreation. Maybe tracking the Moon can provide similar benefit. Humans observe that the Moon changes in brightness from night to night and more careful scrutiny reveals that its shape also appears to change with the brightness.
